What Chandra Uses to Win
|
|
|
---|---|---|
Noncreature SpellsSome of the creatures in Chandra's deck have powerful abilities that trigger whenever you cast a "noncreature spell." Noncreature spells include artifacts, enchantments, instants, planeswalkers, and sorceries. |
+1/+1 CountersSometimes counters are put onto a card to keep track of something during a game. Many are +1/+1 counters, which each give a creature +1 power and +1 toughness. You can use dice or other small items as counters. |
Noncombat DamageCombat damage is the damage that’s dealt automatically by attacking and blocking creatures. Chandra wins with noncombat damage - damage dealt as the result of a spell or ability. |

Customizing it a bit by bringing it up to 65 cards, including a few more buff-y enchantments and direct-damage instants from core 21 helped rev the deck's primary mechanics, and made it run even better, both against known experienced players and in MTGA. Speaking of: you also get an MTG:Arena code for unlocking the deck there, which is great.
There's some pretty fun cards in here that combo well even in Commander decks. White token-creature-based and Green decks tend to stomp all over it, though, so be careful with that! Bad draws are also your enemy, so try to work some card draw and/or land-search into the deck if you do decide to tweak it instead of building your own (hard to do with red but possible if you get a couple fetch lands and thrills of possibility).
Overall, pretty great experience getting into trading card games with this one, at least for my facepunch playstyle. The Liliana deck my girlfriend picked up to play against me seems pretty flimsy in comparison.
Top reviews from other countries
Having played both with and against this deck it simply fails to perform against the other equivalent sets. The cards do not stack up well against their counterparts in other colours. The planes walker is powerful but is left very vulnerable to any creatures with flying or trample (which the other decks included in this release have plenty of).
If you want to buy this to get a few powerful cards for other decks then it will serve that purpose well but don't buy it expecting a powerful ready to play deck that can perform well against other decks, even those released along side it. Of those I found the green and white decks to perform the best so maybe buy those instead or wait for the next set of releases.
The code to use the deck on arena is a nice touch.
