About EVEREADY
EVEREADY got its start in the early 1900’s when the American Eveready Company, developer of the flashlight, joined forces with the National Carbon Company, developer of the first D-sized dry cell battery. In 1907, Eveready announced a new battery - the AA size - and introduced several styles of compact vest lights that used this new battery. The innovation continued throughout the years with the development of the AAA battery in 1911, the first 9-volt battery in 1956 and the first alkaline battery in 1957. Since then, families have used EVEREADY batteries to power their toys, clocks and other everyday devices. The EVEREADY name continues to stand for trust and reliability.

What I like best though is that you can use BOTH the lantern and flashlight functions AT THE SAME TIME, it really comes in handy when I sometimes go out walking at night. The red flashing lights are great too, they are highly visible and should catch the attention of anyone within I'd say 100 feet, probably more, so if you are like me and can never feel too safe when you're out at night, especially when crossing the street, it's a nice feature to have. It can also be used in conjunction with the lantern light, you don't have to close the lantern to use the flashlight or red flashing lights which have two modes, either a quick steady flash or morse code SOS.
The lanterns have three handles to easily carry them, two that are "folded down" and can be turned upwards to carry the lantern upright, they can also be used to hang the lantern. There is also a handle on the side to hold the lantern in a more horizontal orientation, this is particularly useful when using the flashlight on the top to shine the light forward and not straight up. Each lantern also has a recessed hook on the bottom which you pull out to use, as well as three magnets that allow you to hang them upside down or attach them to something magnetic; it works great when working on your car, you can stick it right to the underside of the hood. The bottom/base of the lantern where the hook and magnets are located easily twists off to access the battery compartment. Trying to describe everything in words makes it seem much more difficult than it really is, suffice it for me to say that these lanterns are really well designed and thought out making them very easy to use.
Okay, now, about the rechargeable batteries...
First, let me be clear that these lanterns require three Double-A, that is 3x AA batteries.
It is true that these lanterns do NOT work with NiMH rechargeable AA batteries(as other reviewers have stated), even if you charge the batteries to a high voltage. I've charged AA NiMH rechargeable batteries to over 1.4 volts each, and they still won't make the lanterns work, at least not with the three brands I've used.
However, if you have AAA rechargeable batteries, put them into adapters, AAA to AA adapters(you can buy them here on Amazon if you don't have any, I did), then use them to power the lanterns, they'll work, just don't ask me why, I don't get it myself.
I don't think it's the voltage of the batteries. I've run the lanterns on three AAAs (placed into AA adapters) with just 1.1 volts in each battery, and it works great, but three AA batteries charged to 1.4 volts plus won't work, I don't know why. Maybe it's the internal resistance, but I checked that too using my battery charger/tester/analyzer, and the readings were similar for both the AA and AAA batteries.
Anyway, I cannot tell you why, it doesn't make sense to me(I'd actually love it if someone could explain it), but I can tell you that it works, at least for me, with the rechargeable AAA batteries I've used, and they're not Eneloops.
Cheers
I paid $20 for 4 lanterns with batteries. Bang for the buck, you can't beat that. My kids loved having their own personal lantern while camping. And the built in flashlight function is also awesome. They even put a little hook on the bottom of the base of the lantern so you can hang it easily. AND there are magnets on the base so you can stick it to metallic object too! They are very light weight but they seem sturdy enough. The lights are very bright and there is even a red emergency flasher function you can activate. Really neat little product! No issues encountered whatsoever. Would highly recommend.
On a small note, they come with "heavy duty" batteries, which is code speak for zinc-carbon. Now, they probably won't ever leak (unlike alkalines) but they also have a fraction of the capacity. I'd almost prefer they not include batteries at all. I usually put lithium AAs in my emergency lights, since they have excellent capacity, will never leak, and can sit in storage for years without losing a significant amount of charge.
Battery life seems to be fine, with mine still bright after 3 hours. The two options of blinking red lights could be handy in an emergency to signal, whether you’re broke down on the roadside, or hiking in the woods.
For the price of them on Amazon ($29.99 for 4), these are worth buying to stash in the car, camper, kids bedrooms and the house. Much safer than candles in a power outage, and give one to the kids for those middle of the night bathroom trips.
I’ve already added these to my Christmas list for the grandkids.

Bought these to use for any power outages and to be prepared if they decide to switch it off in the UK...!!! lol
ordered from a US seller, very quick delivery within 7 days, compared to something local im still waiting for via Amazon...!!!, 4 nice little BUT bright lanterns, ideal to use at home if needed. You can find similar in the UK ive seen, recently a garden centre, for around the same price individually but these have the magnetic base, brighter lights and the additional functions, would have a preferred a solid red instead of flashing red light but wont really use it anyway
even comes with batteries for each light so no need to purchase new ones.
Definitely worth the purchase if you need any lanterns for general use or camping!
