Economical replacement for a comparable Minn Kota

Economical replacement for a comparable Minn Kota
Keep in mind that I've only had this motor for a couple of days. With that said, I'm very pleased with my decision to switch from Minn Kota (which died a second time after three years) to Newport Vessels 55 lb troller. This troller came fully assembled except for the prop, which is a no brainer to install.First impressions: this motor seems to push my 12 foot ancient Starcraft semi-V a bit faster than my old Minn Kota. I live on a canal in southern Florida and go fishing three or four times a week. The troller is used to propel the boat as well as troll since gas motors are not allowed in these waters. It is perhaps a bit louder than the Minn Kota but by no means a problem. I like the handle, which has a flat surface that makes it easy to tell when you are in neutral. The 5/3 speeds and other parts all work as expected. When I read the instructions on opening the package, it warned about the need to have an external circuit breaker in case of getting fouled in weeds or on the bottom. I'm pretty sure my Minn Kota had a built-in circuit breaker because I never read anything about needing an external one. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that a circuit breaker was provided and pre-wired to the troller terminals. I used a tennis ball with a cut in it to "weather-proof" the circuit breaker, since it did not seem constructed to be exposed to rain, etc.The 30" shaft, as opposed to the 36" one on the Minn Kota is a better size for my boat.Minor gripe. I wish there was a way to turn off the LED battery life indicators. I 've read that they are not very accurate anyway and I very rarely even come close to running down the battery before recharging. I worry that they might run down the battery if the motor is left connected to the battery, as I usually do. I suppose I could open up the case and disconnect the power to the LEDs but I'm sure this would void the warranty.PS It has nothing to do with the troller motor but I can't help posting the photo of me with a hefty Peacock Bass, caught in my canal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent on Kevlar canoe
Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2023
After using this motor on a fishing canoe for several years in salt water I am very satisfied with the weight and thrust. It’s light enough for mounting at the end of the canoe, and it drives the canoe at a good clip without using a lot of power. A canoe or small Jon boat are ideal for shallow water, IF you don’t have to paddle or row them a long ways, at least at my advancing age. In very shallow water tilt the motor up and paddle as usual. Note that the battery cables are fairly short, so also getting extension cables is advised so both you and the battery are not at the back of the boat, which can tilt the front up. This was a fairly low cost motor but the performance and quality have been excellent. Wandering all over the salt marshes for crab and oysters is not an arduous workout now that we have this motor to assist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than Minnkota
Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2023
This motor is fantastic. It has great power for pushing my 14 foot tri hull, fiberglass boat. The only thing to be aware of is the fuse that comes along with this unit. The contacts are open to the environment which lens itself to becoming easily shorted out which I did on the other side of the lake. I didn’t realize that was the problem and was stuck for a while. I would suggest replacing it with a 60 amp breaker available through Amazon. overall it’s got power. It’s easy to use, and appears to be reliable customer service is helpful and better than the competition. It has a two year warranty and you don’t even have to register it and the price is much lower than the competition. I could not be more pleased.
