I see a lot of people whining about it but don’t let that deter you. You have to set it up correctly to have it work right, which mainly involves making sure the blade is seated right. The shoe was a bit beveled at the front and back but that had no impact on the majority of the cutting surface which was perfectly flat. After taking 2 mins to make sure it was adjusted correctly, I was getting nice long shaves off a pine door, def a win for the price.
I don’t know if it’s up to par for someone who’s planing wood every day, but for those of you who will use it intermittently here and there, definitely go for it.
HAVING SAID THAT, my plane has 2 main issues that I would have expected not to be there,
1. The mouth is VERY OPEN, in the fully closed position it is 5 mm wide (fully open is 9mm wide). And since the blade protrudes ~2mm for a light shaving from the back of the mouth, that still leaves AT LEAST 3 mm of open space in front of the blade. I cannot imagine needing to open the mouth more than 3mm in front of a blade ever (this is not a scrub plane ...).
2. Blade steel is very bad. I am not sure if this is a quality control issue, where my specific blade was not tempered correctly, but the steel feels extremely soft and is not able to hold an edge (There is also a lot of chipping happening even when sharpening with a honing guide on water stones).
In the future I will get an after-market blade (which will probably cost more than this plane ...), but right now it is working for me because I ask from the tool what the tool can provide.

Price was very reasonable, so can't ask for any better.
Was sollte dieses verhältnismäßig kleine „Dingelchen“ an meiner Buchenholzleiste abbekommen ???
