About Us
Cold Steel is a company dedicated to making strong, sharp knives. Over the last three decades, Cold Steel made many innovations that have helped to define the knife industry. Progressive accomplishment, including the introduction of the checked Kraton handles, and the tanto point blade styles have gone from curiously interesting features to industry-wide hallmarks of quality and sophistication. New ground was also broken with the introduction of unique new blade steels like San Mai III and Tri-Ad Lock & locking mechanism for folding knives. Of course Cold Steel will always look to the future, constantly striving to make the world's strongest, sharpest knives. That goal as elusive and difficult to achieve as it is, has been the same for the past forty years.
Cold Steel is a knife and tool company dedicated to creating the strong, sharp knives, swords, tomahawks, machetes, cutlery, tools for every day carry: EDC. Quickly adopted by Military, Law Enforcement Special units, Emergency Services Personnel, Self Defense professionals as well as members of the Martial Arts community, Cold Steel quickly became renowned for quality, strength, reliability and dependability in every day carry (EDC). Our diverse and varied line-up quickly grew to include not only a massive selection of folding knives (from smaller "EDC" blades, to our iconic giant “mega-folders”) but fixed blades, swords, sabers, pole-arms and halberds, as well as hunting gear, spears, blowguns, axes, machetes, tomahawks and tools!
Over the decades, Cold Steel has introduced pioneering new materials and designs that have helped to shape the world of the modern knife, edged weapons and tools. From the introduction of the checkered Kraton handles, and the “Americanized” Tanto blade, to the inclusion of innovative new blade steels like San Mai III and game-changing locking mechanisms (like our Tri-Ad Lock). As we look to the future, Cold Steel continues to bring new levels of strength, safety and performance to the market, providing products that you can rely on – Anytime, Anywhere!

I’m going to be honest, I was hesitant to spend money on something you can pretty easily make yourself, BUT this blowgun and similar models (from CS) had received rave reviews both on Amazon and on YouTube so I bit the bullet and bought this one.
This was my second blowgun purchase and the first one was an epic disappointment (FROM A DIFFERENT MFG). You don’t need tactical handles or slings or really any of the other garbage most vendors are adding to their guns just to drive the prices up. This gun comes with almost everything you need to get going.
The only thing I wish mine included in the box is two items, a hand grip, and a quiver that will hold the stun darts.
This thing HITS HARD, and is DEADLY accurate from at least ten yards.
I did purchase another manufacturer’s tactical rail that is said to fit the model I purchased from Cold Steel so I could mount a laser onto it to improve my aim, but honestly, it’s not needed. After just a few minutes I was landing the bamboo darts directly on top of each other.
I also salvaged the hand grip from the smaller .50 cal disappointment by using a little bit of silicone based lubricant, some elbow grease, and about ten minutes of working it up the pole (my roommate couldn’t help but laugh at the site of this).
I know it’s super trendy to have the “fletching” (plug?) left loose so that your darts will continue to travel through your target, but unless you’re hunting something bigger than a raccoon or you just have really bad aim, I don’t see the point in this, as the broadheads that comes with this blowgun are plenty long enough to be lethal on varmint/vermin animals up to raccoons and opossums without you needing to leave it loose.
If you don’t want to lose your darts, I highly recommend getting a can or two of Krylon Glowz spray paint. They were all I could find on Amazon that offers bright, vibrant colors, that also glow in the dark. I applied it only to the fletching area on the broadheads and stun darts as I didn’t want any chemicals getting into anything I shot with them. I fully coated the bamboo darts for better visibility.
If you’re like me and have a lot of foliage in your lawn, I also highly recommend getting a small pocket metal decorator. It won’t locate the stun darts (unless you attach a bb into the center) but those have been really easy for me to locate anyways.
Speaking of stun darts… They are by far my most popular choice for pretty much anything other than target practice. The broadheads are great, and obviously super lethal, but don’t let the name of the stun darts fool you, without modification, they will easily fracture a squirrel’s skull, or stop its heart right where it stands. If you glue a metal bb into the center or drive a small screw into them, it makes them a lot easier to locate using the pocket metal detector mentioned previously, and it SEEMS to add to the damage inflicted. These stun darts are powerful enough on their own to punch through two layers of corrugated cardboard with about a half inch gap between them. Don’t shoot the stun darts towards a solid surface like a tree or fence unless you’re ready to lose it, they do tend to shatter at the point where the fletching (plug?) meets the dart itself. They are really good for land based targets though.
Broadheads won’t shatter, but if you shoot them into something solid (like a tree) they may warp.
The best advice I have for newcomers to using a blowgun is this, breathe from your belly first, then fill your lungs, THEN expel all that air into the gun as rapidly and fully as possible. It takes some practice, but once you get the breathing down, your velocity and accuracy will improve exponentially.
I’m giving my 6 year old “the disappointment” to learn on, but that honestly feels like a disservice to him. Even though it hits hard too, it’s nothing compared to this.
Go for the pro version if you plan to use your gun as a walking stick, get the regular version if you want the broadest range of accessories you can add from other manufacturers, though it’s not a guarantee that all accessories from others will fit onto this gun, I’ve had good results. Avoid other brands of darts though, they don’t seat properly, which prevents a good seal, so you won’t get the velocity and power that this gun is capable of providing.
My only real complaints are two:
1) The bamboo darts actually split the orange tips and causes a slight warping. This can easily be overcome by trimming them down a hair using a pocket knife or fine grit sand paper.
2) The broadheads are not at all sharp. They have a really nice point to them, but even that isn’t really “sharp”. I was able to file them down, to an absolute razor sharpness, but I don’t know that it’s worth the extra effort, since they do a fine job of penetrating exactly as they ship. My complaint here being the marketing used, as everything about their broadheads say “razor sharp”, which they are not.
There is my full review of this incredible blowgun. If you were on the fence, or thinking of going with a smaller option, just don’t.
I wish they would make some more accessories for this size. I would love to see quivers that fit the stun darts and multi-darts with push cones. Just for fun, I fashioned a pistol type fore-grip out of a pvc tee and short length of pipe (had to dremel out the stop inside the 3/4 inch tee). Added a couple of o-rings to the barrel which keep the grip from sliding, but still allow for repositioning. Plan to paint the grip to match. Also added a paracord secured end cap so I can use it as a walking stick (less obvious as a "weapon" when quiver is removed). It looks geeky, but does the job and I can slide it up and down the barrel if need be, or simply take it off.
I also made a neck quiver for the multi-darts using an old eyeglasses case similar to the Witz Lens Locker Waterproof Case, Yellow sold here on Amazon. This smaller version just barely holds 100 multi-darts, but there is also a slightly larger one that may accommodate the push cones as well, not sure. I'm also attaching an old computer cord management rail to the side to hold the push cones or stun darts. Finally, I made a bore cleaning dart from a CrazyEve Leathercraft 20pcs Wool Ball Brush Dauber Leather Dye Tool , by making the circular wire end smaller so it wouldn't scratch the bore and would nestle in a push cone. I simply use the cone to blow the (alcohol) dampened dauber through the blowgun a couple of times. But I want to try burying the wire end in a plug of camping pad foam, too. Anyway, tucked everything into an old, small cordura shoulder bag that I had laying around. It's an almost perfect kit with plenty of room for a small fixed blade, or other accessories, or snacks for a day of target shooting outdoors.
I've included some photos which I hope will explain my kit and also a photo of my very first rounds of shooting (30'). PLEASE DO note the "Robin Hood arrow split" in the bullseye. I'm sort of proud of that, and it probably won't happen again...hahaha.
Hmmm, somewhere around here, I have a really nice collapsible camera tripod that could be modded to receive a barrel... I'm thinking of getting the thinner walled 5' and the 2' extension.
Hope I gave some of you other newbies some ideas. It's good, clean, inexpensive fun in which anyone could partake

Update:
