I was concerned about the weight distribution and the brightness of the laser.
Both of my concerns were unfounded.
I installed the saw on the same portable stand I had my non-sliding compound saw mounted on. I was concerned that it might tip over or list one way or the other.
I need not have worried. It mounted in such a way as to be very sturdy. It didn't waver at all when making even compound miter cuts or 90/90 cuts.
The laser. While it isn't really bright it does light up the cut line nicely for me. I've not tried to use it in bright sunlight but I don't do a lot of work without some kind of cover over me so it isn't even a real concern.
There is a LED light on the saw for some unknown reason. It is really small and pretty dim so don't count on it lighting up the area.
Overall, the saw was very close to perfect out of the box. I only had to make a couple of very minor and minimal adjustments to get it tuned in to my satisfaction.
The cuts are very clean even at the toughest angles. I found the laser to be pretty true most of the time. You do need to check it pretty often but it's really easy to do so just be prepared to take a minute to do it fairly often.
That said, the saw really should come with a 60 tooth blade for smoother, finer cuts. The 40 T it comes with is OK but just OK.
It isn't super heavy either.
The slide works great, smooth and straight with an easy motion. It also locks so you can still use the saw as a non-sliding miter for smaller pieces and trim.
I haven't figured out how to lock the cut angle outside the detents but I will.
This saw is going to help me finish up some of the outstanding honey do projects, too.
1.The accuracy is because the rip fence is angled inward on both sides, so with a long board, and the notch on exact zero, it comes out exactly accurate.
2. The chief problem is when you have to square up edges [and end up 0.5degrees off], conveniently the angle notches allow for 0.5degrees of error, so this problem is easily solved by pushing the angle to 0.5 or -0.5 depending on the side. The laser light or a Speed Square can assist with the angle issue.
[In order to do this anchor the speed square in the blade channel, and then push the miter angle till the other
side of the square touches the fence.
3.The lock mechanism seems broken, but merely requires a quick adjustment on the underside of the saw, then it works perfectly.
a.The plastic nature of this lock mechanism is not likely to be an issue provided that the saw is taken care of, and not banged around
b.The purpose of using plastic is to enhance the ease of the lock mechanism, allowing for much quicker angle
changes [just keep your square at the ready], The plastic serves to store up tension allowing for a tighter
lock. This would be trickier with metal.
c.With all of the above in mind, I find routinely and quicker making cuts that are accurate plus or minus
0.05Degrees [Laser levels of accuracy], to be easy. No other miter box could surpass this, only stand equal to
this.
d.My ability to understand these vaguely intentional manufactures "features" was that I was trained on a miter
box with this exact set of problems. Though the saw itself was 30 years old, and still ran like a charm. Even if
the brand was Hitachi instead of Metabo, who knows. [Needless to say my cuts were always laser accurate].
Overall a great saw and I am glad to say that I am happy with its performance. Understanding and mastering these kinds of quirks is just part of becoming a good carpenter. You will find that cheaper tools have none of these, and usually the main issue with them is simply lack of general function, haha. In more expensive cases these quirks are often intentional, and they often expect you to be smart enough to figure it out. Such is the expectation with every aspect of fine woodwork.
Send this back and buy another and I guarantee you will have another set of quirks, these things are practically brand name trademarks.

Blade changes are a bit aggravating because the whole guard assembly has to be removed to get the blade retention bolt off, but I seldom change blades so not a big worry for me although if you go back and forth a lot this will be an annoyance for you.
I'm not a huge fan of the included blade, but you shouldn't be expecting a high-end blade to come stock on any saw. It's been fine enough so far, but I will be getting some different blades to put on it soon.
