After emailing the company about the noise, they gave me a phone call and helped me troubleshoot the issue. I was able to resolve the sound issue and it is much quieter now - about on par with the noise that my other tumblers make. Excellent service!
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
I have other tumblers and the noise that this one makes is MUCH louder than the others combined. I keep it in the garage and it can easily be heard inside the home. Also, the barrel seems sturdy, but the tumbler base is made from sheet metal that seems relatively flimsy. I have serious concerns about its overall longevity. At time of this review, this unit is rolling its fourth load and it has been getting louder with every load, so I know it isn't just some imbalance caused by a particular set of rocks being tumbled.
For my first batch, I tumbled a mix of miscellaneous cabbing stones (purchased at a rock show and all of the same hardness as the agate) and some fire agate.
The results were spectacular, especially the fire agate! I never dreamed I could achieve polishing results like this!
I read some reviews that complained this tumbler was noisy- I have it in my laundry room and I find it rather soothing and not noisy at all.
Needless to say, as soon as I finished my first batch, I had my second batch ready to go and can't wait to see how those stones come out.
This tumbler has added a new -and beautiful!- dimension to my life-long passion of rock collecting: I love it and wish I had bought it years ago.

There is a great video to watch on maintenance up on tube, worth the time watching.
The Rebel 17 is very similar to this one.
The roller system is better though with thicker rods on sealed pillow block bearings.
The Thumler's uses thin rods in plastic sleeve bearings held up by sheet metal which needs more maintenance and wears faster.
The drum on mine had flared lips that would dig into the rubber on the shafts and wear it off.
The Thumler's uses several types of Fasco motor depending on when it's from.
The older ones from about 2018 and earlier (and the one I just received on Amazon) have 2 holes for adding oil. Mine for some reason didn't say "thermally protected" on the label so I'm not sure if it was or not. Even 10+ year old motors say that, so I'm not sure why mine didn't. Slightly newer motors still have the 2 holes, but no metal spouts can be seen inside them. Those are sealed bearing motors and don't need oil. Even newer versions don't have the holes at all and are sealed bearing motors.
I ended up replacing the Thumler's for a Lortone QT12.
There's a number of things I like better on the Lortone.
The barrel is easier to open/close as well as to maintain, because you're not dumping rock slurry/water over screws and potentially between a rubber and metal drum like on the Thumler's.
The barrel of the Lortone is just rubber so you don't need to worry about rust.
The rollers are a lot bigger and more durable like on the Rebel 17.
The drive belt is thicker and of the "v" type on the Lortone and is also shrouded for protection unlike on the Thumler's.
Being suspended on some pretty flimsy sheet metal which is also relied on for alignment on the Thumler's, the roller rods are almost never perfectly parallel which causes the drum to move to one side and grind away at the barrel stop.
The Lortone/Rebel 17 don't seem to have this issue because of how they're designed.
I'd recommend the Lortone for ease of use followed by the Rebel 17 (slow speed for rock tumbling) since the Rebel 17 needs a little bit more maintenance to prevent rust.
