Product Description
Casio
With the launch of its first watch in November 1974, Casio entered the wristwatch market at a time when the watch industry had just discovered digital technology. As a company with cutting-edge electronic technology developed for pocket calculators, Casio entered this field confident that it could develop timepieces that would lead the market.
Today, Casio is focusing its efforts on solar-powered radio-controlled watches: the built-in solar battery eliminates the nuisance of replacing batteries, atomic timekeeping means the users never have to reset the time. Recently, Casio launched a series of Bluetooth watches that sync to the users cell phone to automatically update the time. Casio is always moving time forward.

The band, while comfortable, seems to be a little chintzy. It’s quite thin compared to the bands I’ve had in the past. Time will tell if it’s more durable than it looks and feels.
The watch is very easy to read in most conditions. The light is reasonably good and makes it pretty readable in the dark too
Instructions in the User’s Guide are pretty good but, IMO, needlessly complicated
The barometer is amazingly, consistently accurate -- and that makes it hard to understand why the ALTIMETER is always so INACCURATE! Usually (I thought), barometers and altimeters in the same device were sort of 'joined-at-the-hip'... but I guess that is not so.
Anyway, it keep very accurate time, as I said before, the compass is accurate, etc. I have not tried to use any of the alarms or *chirp* noises because they are simply nowhere nearly loud enough to be heard in anything but a totally silent background.
I would buy the watch again for under $75 -- and, from what I have read, even spending two, three, or four times that much on a pricier brand may not get you a more accurate ALTIMETER anyway....
**** REVIEW UPDATE, 13 July 2020 ****
All of the functions on this watch work well except the altimeter. It is frequently off by HUNDREDS of feet. Surprisingly, though, the barometer is fairly accurate. As a timepiece, it is always exactly on time!
The alarm function is completely worthless because unless you have super-human hearing ability, you can't hear the alarm going off unless you have the watch right up next to the opening of one of your ears.
All in all, it's still an OK value for the money, at less than a hundred bucks. But if you need an alarm you can hear easily, and an accurate altimeter, buy something else....
You must go through a daunting period of orientation and instruction, and you must pay close attention and not get in a big hurry or you're sure to be puzzled at 'inaccuracies' and you'll be sure that something is wrong with the watch.
It is especially important that you pay a LOT of attention to "calibration", or else everything related to compass, barometer, temperature, and altimeter will all be WAY off -- and you'll blame the watch, when it most likely is not the watch's fault at all.
This Casio watch is a very good buy for about $75, and if you take the time to learn how to set it up and use it, and pay the attention necessary to prepare the watch for accurate operation, you'll have a remarkable, accurate instrument. If you don't, you'll have a big disappointment the size of an Oreo cookie on your wrist.
It won't be perfect, no matter how careful you are. Expect the altimeter always to be off at least 100 feet, the temperature to be off a few degrees, and the compass to be off, according to local magnetic conditions, etc. As a timepiece, so far, it has been spot-on. Just make sure you do the best job you can calibrating everything, and remember, you paid less than a hundred bucks for it!
The other issue is it no longer shows the full date (e.g 12-24 THU) as it did on my older Casio watch. It only switches between 3 settings (12.24, or TH24) < this is as shown on the watch. The third setting being some weird diagram I don't understand the purpose of nor need. Again not a big deal since most can remember what month it is pretty easily. I just would prefer it anyway. These two issues drop it by one star but it's still a great watch with a lot of use for outdoorsy orienteering people. My old watch required calibration for the compass but this one doesn't require that tedious spinning of the watch. The temperature sensor always seems to be inaccurate but I can feel pretty close what temperature it is anyway.
Old salty review: "This product is complete trash to me. All I care about is getting the day and time and this 70$ piece of crap randomly changes the date for NO reason. I've had two weeks to test this and it persists. This kind of malfunction is totally unacceptable for this price range."

This watch is incredible for the price. Same function as Casio protrek but less cheaper in price and no solar battery powered.
I wear a casio SGW-400 before with altimeter barometer and temperature. The SGW-1000 have a compass too. It's about the same watches sizes but the SGW-1000 is more lite weight than my old SGW-400.
This kind of watch is pretty cool for the enthusiast outdoor person like me, for hunting and fishing.
