Great capacity and results, but needs design improvements
So let’s start here. I’m not going to say it’s a bad unit. For the racks, capacity, and in the end results, it’s a good pellet smoker. However it has its’ issues. Let me do pros and cons. As someone who’s owned 5 smokers and cooks semi-professionally here’s my feedback.Cons:- The pellet chute and feed auger. It has been very difficult to manage pellet feeding until it really gets flowing.- Don’t store your pellets in the smoker. It’s been dry here but still keeping the pellets inside they somehow still swell with moisture and then clog the chute and auger. So empty the pellet bin after each use. Trust me.- Terrible chute and auger access to clear clogs. There’s a small door on the rear to let the pellets out but it’s damn near impossible to use as an access to clear the chute and especially the feed tube. Plus have a bin below if you have any amount of pellets in the smoker as they are all coming out.- Pit Boss needs to rethink that whole area.- Voltage into the chassis. I’ll check mine and look at the grounding wires, but mine can pass voltage to the metal chassis. It’s not a full 120 I get, but I can feel the juice in the door and cabinet. That should be better QA.- One more on the feed auger, you can advance pellets by holding the “prime” button, but you have to hold it the whole time and feed augers spin slow. Would have been better for it to feed for 30sec each push.- Minor. The LED display is dim and hard to read in bright light.Pros:- Outstanding temperature control once it is flowing. And really that is #1… Temp control.- Capacity. This thing can hold about 25 racks of ribs at a time. Cooking for a work or family barbecue? Have a restaurant that just occasionally does bbq? This thing has your back.- Water tray. Makes ribs wonderful with the water tray used.- Again once it’s flowing and everything is moving well… zero touch operation. I’ve left it go for 5 hours without adjustment.So yeah my cons were frustrating but it’s fixable if you don’t leave pellets inside. Buy and use the cover, and figure out like I did an effective Jam recovery process. Keep your pellets dry and I would advise just fill a little at first to start and add as much as you think you’ll need, don’t fill it full. I’m sticking with less than 1/4Once it’s running well it runs well. Just manage the startup carefully. I hope they change the auger design and access along with the prime button.

This is a very nice piece of equipment. Assembly is easy. I assembled it alone and it took about an hour. It works be faster with help from a friend! The components are packaged well with plenty of padding.

Initial start up was easy. I Followed the directions in the manual to a T. The fan and auger started up right away and the heating rod heated up very fast. To burn in the smoker they recommend heating it up to 350* for 35 to 40 minutes. It didn't take long to reach the temp. After that i dropped the temp to the smoke setting to smoke 40lbs of homemade bacon.

The final product came out perfect. The smoke is clean and just the right amount. It holds a decent temp but that could be worked on more in future models. I'm personally not looking for temps within 5degrees of what i set out for so If you require exact temps maybe it's not the smoker for you. I would say it's within 10* within its temp.

The way it works is really similar pellet grills like traeger and rectec grills being that it convects the air throughout the smoker and auto feeds pellets with an auger. The biggest difference is the space. You have more space for food and the smoker itself takes up less space.

Cleanup is simple. I would recommend a shop vac to clean out the burnpot after smoking and cool down. The door comes off easy and cleaning it after every use is a must if you want to see the food you are smoking. Warm soapy water and a non abrasive pad for smoking components works for me. Also works for inside the smoke cabin.

I'm happy with my purchase. Happy with the results. Happy with the ease of use. The only thing i worry about is the longevity and reliability in the long run. I would recommend this to anyone
Edit* over a year of use ive come across many issues. Tons of auger jams. The electronic display went out fast. Maybe it can't take ther heat? Longevity has been tested and it didn't last long. Would not recommend this smoker.
