You can adjust the range at which the device hears your low notes and plays them an octave lower, so, typically I have mine set from low E to the open D or so. My only dissatisfaction with it is if I ever play notes between the low note and the top D, the pedal picks up those notes and plays those as well, an octave lower. I have to be careful with my left hand to not let those notes ring or the bass sounds like mud. I wish there were one that truly only listened to the lowest note because I would like to be able to play power chords without the fifth also being played on bass. This doesn't do that.
The OC-3 can do what the OC-2 did, plus more. I think it has more stable tracking, and can handle hot bridge pickups better. The OC-2 made an ugly distortion when I used the bridge pickup with a clean setting on my amp. The OC-3 doesn't do that. The OC-3 also has a polyphonic mode, so you can octave chords (which the OC-2 couldn't do), and it has a mode with distortion. I find that this makes for a really good distortion pedal, and you can dial in as much sub-octave as you want with it.
There is a polyphonic mode that I wouldn't bother with - I think the results are too "muddy" - I only use is for adding bass lines to my playing: via the left hand plays bass lines while the right hand plays chords on the vibes or the thumb plays bass lines while the fingers play chords on the guitar - it works.
Overall a great pedal, especially for the money, a nice addition to any rockers pedalboard, especially power trios etc
